‘Patriotic Evening’ will recall WWII
A “Patriotic Evening” will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday in the theater at Maple Ridge Resort Lifestyle Communities, 3525 N. 167th Circle.
There will be displays about World War II and the Holocaust, information about the Heartland Honor Flights, music and interviews with veterans. Guest speaker will be Bea Karp, a Holocaust survivor.
The events are free and open to the public, but because seating is limited, reservations must be made by calling 359-2887.
Information sessions set on vets programs
Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, will present two informational sessions on higher education and benefits programs for veterans, military members and their families.
The sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Center in the Stark Student Center on the Briar Cliff campus.
Schools and agencies that work with veterans are welcome. People attending can choose either of the two sessions, which are free and open to the public. No preregistration is required.
Etiquette workshops for teens, preteens
Teens and preteens in grades seven through 12 are invited to a free teen etiquette workshop offered by the Omaha Public Library.
“Etiquette for Prom and Other Formal Occasions” will be presented from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 by Corina Orsborn from Clara’s Closet. The session will be held at the Abrahams Library, 5111 N. 90th St.

Chautauqua to focus on 1930s history
Return to the 1930s as historical figures Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Huey Long, Will Rogers, Aimee Semple McPherson and Zora Neale Hurston take the stage to share their dreams with the audience.
“Bright Dreams, Hard Times: America in the Thirties” is the topic for Wednesday through Sunday’s Kansas-Nebraska Chautauqua in Rhylander Park in Plattsmouth.
The events, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. nightly except Friday, when the starting time is 6 p.m.
Other activities will include daily workshops for children and adults, a tour of historic homes, antique machinery and quilt shows, a 1930s live radio show, pre-show entertainment, a Dust Bowl photography exhibit and more.

Story time for kids at Holland Center
Nancy Chmiel of the Omaha Public Library is traveling downtown this summer, presenting stories and visiting special places as part of the library reading program’s “Be Creative” theme.
She will be at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 13th and Douglas Streets, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The program is free and open to the public. It is geared toward kindergartners through third-graders, but all ages are welcome.
