Jennifer Lopez, one of the clients of makeup artist Mally Roncal, shows Roncal’s work.
Ladies, we know summertime temps can be brutal, especially on your face.
Think sticky lipstick, melted makeup and spotty self-tanners.
We asked celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal — who has worked with Hayden Panettiere, Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé — how to get through a makeup meltdown. Here’s what she had to say:
Spotty self-tanner
I know we all love to multi-task, but that’s not a good idea with self-tanner. Instead, focus on one section of your body at a time. Working in smaller sections will also ensure you don’t miss any spots. One of my little tricks is to use less product on the areas that crease (knees, hands, feet).
Melted Makeup
Over-done beach makeup will leave you looking like a melted mess. Keep things simple and smudge-free by using a primer on your eyelid before applying a light shade of shadow. Blend each stroke of shadow to avoid harsh lines. Finish off the look with just one coat of smudge-proof mascara.
Over-dramatic Lips
I was once a victim myself of the dark lip liner and light lip “trend.” To avoid that garish look, apply a nude lip by lining the perimeter with a color that matches your lip tone. The nude lip is easy and natural, but it adds a hint of sophistication to your look. Use a nude primer to remove color from the lip and smooth out lines and wrinkles. Then, fill lips with the perfect nude lipstick and finish it off with a color-infused nude lip gloss. Think peach or apricot.
Bold eyes
The palettes for the season are all about bright hues from neon to citrus. The eyes are a great place to start with such a bold beauty statement. Eventually you can work your way to the lips when you’re comfortable enough.
Bronzers
Rather than basking in those unhealthy UV rays to achieve a sun-kissed glow, bronzers are the way to go. Opt for a matte bronzer and start on the jaw line just behind your ear — not the center of your face as most women do.
You should apply around the perimeter of the face, hairline and temples in a soft, circular motion. Then you can fill in lightly in the hollow of the cheeks. To add depth, use a hint of blush on the apples of your cheek.
