Lethal injection backed in survey


Twenty-nine state senators — four more than needed to adopt a law — indicated in the World-Herald survey that they either supported or would strongly consider adopting lethal injection as the means to carry out the death penalty in Nebraska.

 


Disease struck quickly in teen

Ashley Andreasen arrived home Thursday evening after spending the night with friends, and settled down to watch TV and eat dinner with her family. Soon after, the Council Bluffs 15-year-old developed a severe headache that left her crying and nauseated. By 9 p.m., she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. By the next evening, she was dead.

 


Group hopes to transform vacant building into NoDo creative center

An artist-led group wants to transform a mostly vacant north downtown building into a creative center with studios, classrooms, theater space, shops and restaurants. The Omaha Creative Institute, an initiative of the Hot Shops Art Foundation, formed more than a year ago with the goal of promoting the creative process in the area.
